The following is required by IUPUI Fire Protection Services for final acceptance of an automatic sprinkler system installation in a university structure:

The system should be tested in accordance with Indiana Building Code(International), sections 903, 904 and 905, to include referenced codes and standards; NFPA 13, 14 and 20.

  1. IUPUI Fire Protection Services as Authority Having Jurisdiction must witness flushing of underground connections before tie in to sprinkler piping and verification of flow rate in accordance with NFPA 13.
  2. IUPUI Fire Protection Services as Authority Having Jurisdiction must witness hydrostatic testing of all piping, including underground piping to required pressure as specified by code.
  3. IUPUI fire Protection Services as Authority Having Jurisdiction must witness testing of dry pipe systems(where applicable) using inspector's test connection. All drains to be tested with control valve open.
  4. At the time of acceptance, IUPUI Fire Protection Services will receive a set of As Built Plans pertaining to the entire automatic sprinkler system installation.
  5. At the time of acceptance, IUPUI Fire Protection Services will receive copies of properly executed Contractor's Material & Test Certificates pertaining to above ground and below ground systems.
  6. At the time of acceptance, IUPUI Fire Protection Services will receive all pertinent paperwork, including but not limited to owner's manuals and other information about the operation of the system and its components.
  7. The sprinkler contractor will participate in testing of the fire alarm system as scheduled with IUPUI fire Protection Services to test waterflow alarms and supervisories, etc. as components of total fire protection system.
  8. IUPUI Fire Protection Services as Authority Having Jurisdiction must be present during testing of fire pumps(where applicable). Testing certificates and written manufacturer's materials must be provided by installer.
  9. Systems will not receive approval by AHJ until compliance with this document has taken place.
